Swimming

Scope and method of calculating time

Open water swimming includes starting the mass or waves on land or water and finishing on land or water. The in-water finish is usually designed according to FINA rules where timing is taken when the swimmer touches the touch pad above their head.

Start times are easily determined when the wave begins when swimmers in each category leave at the same time. There may be many waves that require swimming groups to be safely managed. Easily set up the beach finish according to the diagram below. The in-water finish is more complicated and requires a large array of side antennas projecting in front or above the swimmer’s wrist. This requires the design of floating buoys to anchor in the water.

Setup plan

The transponder is worn on both wrists and is lifted when the swimmer touches the touch panel above their head. Transponders can be reusable Hutags or disposable tags using an adhesive wristband that integrates with the transponder.

Swimming in the ocean or lake is relatively easy to time with just a single Ultra4 system and a combination of Ultramats and side antennas.
